Mid-Missourians are amazingly generous throughout the year. Residents enjoy giving back to their favorite causes, volunteering to help fellow families and individuals in need and contributing in many ways to make their hometown neighbors’ lives a bit brighter.

Many HER Magazine staff members give back through a variety of different organizations and efforts just like their fellow Mid-Missourians. Some join their families in ringing the bell for the Salvation Army. Others help out at their church’s community holiday meals or buy gifts for kids in need through local programs. One longtime HER Magazine and News Tribune employee embraces the holiday spirit, giving in multiple ways each year to her community. We are thankful for what she does to help the Jefferson City and Cole County communities, we are also appreciative for all of our staff’s charitable efforts and, most importantly, to everyone in the community who lends a helping hand to someone in need this holiday season.

Advertising Representative Janet Ousley: I am a true believer in the giving of myself through acts of kindness all year. But the holidays tend to magnify that for me. Ringing the bell through my Lions Club for the Salvation Army is a favorite. I always try to add a fun element like a funny musical hat. I also provide gift baskets through the Apache Flats Business Association for deserving parishioners at St. Martins Catholic Church. For 18 years, I have fared the cold and elements to bring smiles and happiness to children coming to the Candy Cane House at Living Windows. Many still come as teenagers as atradition to see the “elf.” Surprising friends with a gift I know they would never buy for themselves and seeing the true appreciation in their eyes makes my heart happy!
