Healing House and Koinoia House host annual fundraiser May 21

Recovery, spiritual growth and housing and life skills are what its residents strive to achieve. The nonprofit organization that helps women and men coming out of incarceration and successfully reaching those goals invites the community to meet and support them at its yearly fundraiser.

The Healing House and New Beginnings will hold its fourth annual fundraiser from 5-8 p.m. May 21 at Memorial Park Pavilion, 115 Memorial Park Drive in Jefferson City.

The organization raised more than $16,500 at the 2017 fundraiser and even more from its 2018 event, with a portion of the proceeds to help the Koinoia House, a residential program with the same mission for men.

Heather Gieck, who founded The Healing House in 2013, merged and brought the Koinonia House under the 501(c)(3) organization,

The Healing House and New Beginnings. Serving as executive director of both, she said the funds will help both programs for men and women. More than 50 percent of The Healing House’s income comes from a program fee participants pay. Occasional grants, monetary donations, community contributions and local sponsorships are other financial support outlets, with the organization not receiving any funding from federal or state governments.

Each ticket will help The Healing House programs and includes a fun evening for the whole family. Colton’s Steakhouse is sponsoring the meal, which is $15 a plate and includes barbecue pulled pork sandwich, cole slaw, homemade chips, pickle and cookies. Children ages five and younger receive free hot dogs and chips. McAlistor’s Deli will provide drinks. Live music and testimonies, a silent auction and raffles will be also be a part of the festivities.
